In our crowded small car segment, Mitsubishi’s all-new Lancer range demands serious consideration.

Mitsubishi says the Lancer’s pricing and specifications were intended to make an immediate impact.

Under the bonnet is a zippy 2.0-litre engine delivering 113kW of power.

The new Lancer makes impressive safety claims with Stability Control and Traction Control standard – these are acknowledged safety devices that help control the car on wet roads or in emergencies. ABS anti-lock brakes with electronic brake pressure distribution and brake assist are also standard.

Continuing Lancer’s safety story, inside, entry level ES models come with standard driver and passenger airbags and a driver’s knee airbag to prevent injuries in the event of a collision where the driver may impact the lower part of the dashboard. Side and curtain airbags are standard on higher specification VR and VRX models (optional on the ES).

The optional automatic is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which provides seamless gear shifts ensuring smooth acceleration at all engine speeds. CVT transmissions also deliver better fuel economy than older conventional automatics.

The sporty, range-topping VRX models gain larger 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers, Smart Key keyless operation (just push a button to start the engine) and hands-free Bluetooth mobile phone technology with steering wheel controls.

Cruise control is standard across the range as is air conditioning (automatic climate control on VR and VRX).
