Ford Australia debuted the all-new Fiesta compact car and it’s new corporate President, Marin Burela, simultaneously at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The connection is direct – Mr Burela (an Australian) has worked at Ford around the world and his reputation has been garnered in the development of compact cars. He flew into Sydney from London the morning of the Motor Show media preview.

Mr Burela’s jetlag did not deter his enthusiasm for the all-new Fiesta and the 24-hour 747 trip paid-off when the covers were removed to reveal a stunning, world-class compact car - with prices starting at $15,750, Fiesta is set to make a big splash when it goes on sale early in 2009.

Fiesta will be sold in both three-door and fivedoor models. The European design is very crisp and contemporary with sharp, angular lines.

The interior is very futuristic and really distinguishes the all-new Fiesta from its segment rivals. Clearly Ford will be marketing the new Fiesta to the young… and the young at heart.

There are two engines - a 1.4-litre developing 71 kW of power at 5750 rpm and 128Nm of torque at 4200 rpm and a 1.6-litre delivering 88kW and 152Nm.

Anti-lock brakes with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) plus driver and passenger SRS airbags are standard on all models. Rangetopping Zetec models gain front seat head and thorax airbags, driver knee airbag and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) with traction control and emergency brake assist (all available as a $1,000 extra safety pack option on other models). Externally, Zetec versions can be distinguished by 16-inch alloy wheels and a sports body kit highlighted by a large rear spoiler.

Innovative technology features include Bluetooth? with Voice Control (LX and Zetec models) and USB connectivity allowing MP3 player integration (Zetec) plus a 3.5mm audio jack and Easyfuel capless refuelling in standard on all models.

“The new model shows an exciting interpretation of kinetic design, with an energetic, sophisticated and distinctive exterior and a refreshingly different interior design,” Mr Burela said.
