BMW Australia has racked up 6000 sales for its X3 Sports Activity Vehicle with a family of three taking delivery of X3 xDrive20d Lifestyle model with M Sport Package.

For Andrew and Branca McFarlane and daughter Sienna this is their second X3. Andrew works for Seek.com.au as a project manager and Branca is the e-marketing manager for the Law Institute of Victoria and they have found BMW’s unique X3 ideal for their lifestyle. This time around they have chosen a diesel variant. Significantly, the McFarlane’s X3 features BMW’s latest EfficientDynamics technology endowing it with an impressive fuel consumption figure of just 6.7 litres per 100 km. Not only is their new car competent in all kinds of terrain, it is also considerate of the environment.

The notching up of 6000 local sales is a key landmark, which indicates how precisely BMW’s compact and urban-friendly adventure machine has matched Australian motoring aspirations. It brings BMW quality and excitement to the compact all-terrain market. Seventy per cent of X3s sold here are powered by diesel engines.

The selection of a replacement for the family’s first BMW X3 was a simple one. “We selected the BMW X3 three years ago when Branca was pregnant,” Andrew said. “We wanted a car that offered good performance, was secure, stable and a good family vehicle.”

“I wanted the flexibility of an SUV, one that was the right size for me and gave a good ride,” Branca said. “The BMW X3 has been the complete package,” Andrew said. “And the service has been faultless over 45,000 km. We just put petrol in, drove off and enjoyed it.

“For the new car we chose white this time instead of black and diesel over petrol for the environmental benefits. The diesel puts out less carbon dioxide emissions,” Andrew said.

“We also added a Panorama sunroof and the M Sport Package with the bigger wheels and sports seats. The smooth and frugal 2.0-litre diesel power plant joined the X3 family in 2008 and already accounts for more than 70 per cent of all X3 sales.

The X3 xDrive20d is currently the most fuel efficient premium compact all-terrain vehicle on Australian roads and is priced from $62,200*.
