‘Alexander Selipanov’ might not be a name that everyone would be familiar with. But having been responsible for the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo concept car in 2015 and the stunning Chiron hypercar, the former Bugatti designer is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
He’s had his hand in several Volkswagen Group projects through his career, with the Lamborghini Huracan of 2010 having gained come of his input. With such an impressive CV, it’s almost unsurprising that Hyundai’s new luxury sub-brand Genesis has snapped him up, appointing him as the chief designer at their Global Genesis Advanced Studio in Europe.
This comes after the emerging Korean brand brought on board SangYup Lee, formerly of Bentley, and put him in place as their vice president of styling. After which, the role of ‘head of design’ was filled by another ex-Bentley staffer, Luc Donckerwolke. With these new hires, it’s becoming evident that Genesis is putting a huge emphasis on design, which might just be what it takes to push the new marque right into the luxury big-leagues.
In anticipation of what might come out of Genesis in the years to come, we urge you to take a moment to drool over what Selipanov managed to pen while he was at Bugatti.
