The Volkswagen Arteon, the four-door coupe cousin to the Passat sedan and successor to the CC, has only just started its rollout to early testers prior to its worldwide showroom debut later this year.
As a companion, though, VW is reportedly considering a more practical wagon-esque body style for it. The German manufacturer’s key concern here is to not cannibalise the Passat Wagon, but offer a more stylish ‘Shooting Brake’ option to their newest offering.
As Autocar repots, Volkswagen’s Head of Product Elmar Licharz said: “It’s our intention to turn the Arteon into a model family. Right now, we have a proposal on the table for a stylish wagon version to compliment the hatchback. The car has not been confirmed for production yet, but it has a good chance.”
It’s an interesting proposition, blending style with a proper extended 5-door hatch layout. Mercedes-Benz went down a similar path with their CLS four-door coupe, offering a Shooting Brake option starting from 2012.
Volkswagen Australia will be welcoming the Arteon’s arrival into local showrooms this October, which as recently revealed, would be offered in a single 206TSI R-Line spec with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch sending drive to all four wheels. Pricing will be confirmed closer to the launch date.
