Massive global recall order issued by Volkswagen AG over possible pedal mechanism in its SUVs becoming loose.
Volkswagen AG has issued a global recall for SUVs manufactured under its brand or its subsidiaries, with the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne being the exact models afflicted with a possible defect that could result in foot pedals becoming loose.
Porsche Cars Australia have said that a total of 6,186 Cayenne units in Australia are affected, but it’s still unclear how many Volkswagen Touaregs down under fall under this recall.
According to separate statements from both manufacturers, the recall surrounds approximately 409,000 Porsche Cayenne and 391,000 Volkswgen Touareg SUVs between the model years of 2011 and 2016.
There’s a clip that’s attached to a bearing bracket that could become loose over time, both of which are part of pedal assembly. Bad things follow unreliable control inputs like those, and sister models such as the Touareg and Cayenne means that a defect could easily jump across markets.
Interestingly, Audi’s Q7 – another car under the VW umbrella that’s closely related to the Touareg and Cayenne – is absent from the recall despite sharing the same assembly line in Volkswagen AG’s manufacturing facilities in Slovakia.
The issue itself was found to exist during Volkswagen’s own internal checks and owners of the affected vehicles are said to be receiving calls from their dealers presently, requirin a quick half-hour fix.
