Volvo will leap to the front of the hybrid field when it displays the V60 Plug-In Hybrid at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

The vehicle displayed will be virtually production-ready and Volvo plans to be the first manufacturer to market with this new hybrid concept when the V60 Plug-In Hybrid is launched next year.

Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall is Volvo’s partner in Plug-In Hybrid logistics.

“In order to get true car enthusiasts to think green, you have to offer them the opportunity to drive with low carbon dioxide emissions without taking away the adrenaline rush that promotes genuine driving pleasure,” revealed Volvo Cars CEO Stefan Jacoby. “The V60 plug-In Hybrid has all the traditional properties of a genuine sports wagon. The front wheels of the V60 Plug-In Hybrid are driven by Volvo’s 160kW/440Nm five-cylinder, 2.4-litre D5 turbo-diesel engine. The rear wheels are driven by an Electric Rear Axle Drive comprising a 52kW electric motor powered by a 12kW lithium-ion battery pack.

Drive is via six-speed automatic transmission.

Volvo says the V60 Plug-in Hybrid can cover 50kms running exclusively on electricity.
