A new model, to further its roaring success.

Volvo Teases An SUV Ahead Of Geneva: XC40 or XC60?

Resurgent Swedish marque Volvo is certainly riding on the waves of its success. After bringing to the world the critically-acclaimed XC90 family wagon and the remarkable S90 & V90 saloon and estate, observers and onlookers began to notice the enormous generational gap that existed within its current lineup. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and Gothenberg has been hard at work to plug that gap as swiftly as possible.

After numerous spy shots were captured of two SUVs undergoing testing, Volvo has seen it prudent to give us a taste of what to expect from it at the upcoming Geneva motor show. In an image that it released on Facebook, the nose of a new high-riding vehicle is seen, with the Iron Mark highlighted for added effect. Despite our best efforts to enhance the image, no other details can be gleaned.

Interestingly, the “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights seen here seem to extend into the upright grille, a first for the brand (the headlights in the XC90, S90, and V90 stop short of the grille). This is likely to emphasise the width of a more compact offering. Just how compact is the question here though, as Volvo has previously aired its intentions to breach the compact-SUV segment with an offering to slot below the XC60. On the latter car, the XC60 continues to sell strongly through Europe despite its slightly aged bones, a testament to what a good car can do.

The Facebook teaser also publicised a very important point: The unveiling date. March 7th is the day we’ll find out more about what Volvo’s got hiding in its garage, and we implore you to stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring more details as we get them.
