We’ll be hearing a lot about Volvo’s high-performance Polestar operation when it joins the local V8 Supercar championship next year, but in the meantime, the S60 and V60 Polestar models have been unveiled at home in Sweden.
And, as we know, the transformation is startling to say the least.
Under the bonnet a new twin-scroll turbocharger and intercooler plus a 2.5-inch stainless steel exhaust system boost output for the six-cylinder T6 engine to 257kW/500Nm and gives a racy sound as well. Drive is via a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle-shifters and Polestar-developed Haldex all-wheel-drive.
Underneath are Ohlins shock absorbers, 80 per-cent stiffer springs, 20-inch alloy wheels and larger brakes with Brembo calipers.
On the outside, the Polestar models benefit from aerodynamic enhancements developed in Volvo’s own wind tunnel. There’s front splitters, a diffuser and rear spoiler.
And Polestar also gives the interior a work-over with its own seats and steering wheel.
