One look at Volvo’s Geneva Motor Show star, this handsome Concept Estate and Volvo aficionados immediately recall the popular 1800 ES model from the 1970s.
The third in a series of Volvo concept cars created by designer Thomas Ingenlath, the estate car is simple on the outside and right ‘on-trend’ inside with a large tablet-like touchscreen handling most of the car functions normally managed by buttons and knobs.
“Not having to deal with buttons and controls for a growing number of functionalities is like being freed from a pair of handcuffs,” enthused Volvo’s head of interior design, Robin Page. ‘This has made it possible to build a beautiful interior architecture around the portrait screen.
Volvo’s Geneva-bound Concept Estate follows the Concept Coupe first seen at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and the Concept XC Coupe which debuted earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show.
Volvo says these provide pointers to the future direction of all-new models – the next-generation XC90 due later this year.
The company says the floating grille, T-shaped DRLs and rear light layouts are now part of its future styling DNA.
