Volvo’s First Production S60 Polestar Breaks Cover
Australia is the first market to see the racy Volvo S60 Polestar, built by Polestar. Previously Polestar supplied components but time it’s doing the lot.
First local deliveries will start in June of what will be a pilot program which, if successful, will see the sporty Volvos sold in other markets.
Polestar is to Volvo what HSV is to Holden and FPV is to Ford and we were very keen on the Volvo C30 and S60 Polestar models.
“WE received a fantastic response to our Volvo C30 and S60 Polestar concept cars, so we’re happy to now introduce our first production car to the Australian market. This is an important step forward for Polestar, one that promises an exciting future,” revealed Polestar managing Director Christian Dahl.
Based on the slick Volvo S60 T6, the Polestar benefits from extensive chassis development with input from Polestar race team driver Robert Dahlgren. Included in the package are dampers from racing specialists Ohlins, a carbon fibre strut brace and uprated brakes.
On the outside the Volvo S60 Polestar scores a front splitter, rear wing and underbody diffuser – all developed after wind-tunnel testing at Volvo. Wheels are 19-inch alloys from Polestar with 235/40R 19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres.
Engine changes include a larger turbocharger, new intercooler, sports exhaust and revised mapping. Drive is via a Polestar-tuned six-speed automatic transmission with launch control and a Haldez AWD system also fettled by Polestar.
That’s all good for 257kW and more than 500Nm of torque - that’ll get you from zero to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds and that’ll get the attention of high performance European sedan buyers without doubt.
