In a first for the Southern Hemisphere Volvo’s driverless XC90 will be tested next weekend on Adelaide’s Southern Expressway.
“Our Government is providing the conditions for these trials to occur in South Australia because we recognize the immense benefits that autonomous vehicles and intelligent transport systems will bring to our communities,” revealed South Australian Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan. “By making South Australia an attractive destination for global firms to test, develop and trial their technology on Australian roads we are telling the world that South Australia is open for business.”
South Australia’s Royal Automobile Association is also on the front foot for autonomous motoring with engineer Mark Borlace just back from a trip to North America and Germany studying the technology under development by Michigan University and Mercedes-Benz.
