Volvo’s clever, fuel-sipping DRIVe models now have an optional automatic transmission.

DRIVe versions of the Volvo S60, V60, V70 and S80 can now be ordered with Volvo’s Powershift dual-clutch automatic and, here’s the good bit, Volvo says the automatic version return the same fuel consumption as their manual transmission siblings.

This has been achieved thanks to auto start/stop for diesel models, modified engine management and gearbox software and reduced friction between the engine and transmission.

In addition, Volvo’s turbocharged 1.6-litre T3 petrol engine (fitted to the S60 and V60) has improved fuel consumption – now down to 4.8l/100kms.

Volvo Car Australia will announce Australian details shortly.
