Volvo Recalls 79,000 Cars... In US & Canada

It’s recall season: Volvo has issued a recall notice for 79,000 cars in the United States and Canada due to concerns over an incorrectly manufactured seatbelt buckle.  This recall affects most of the range, namely the S60 & V60, the S90, and the XC60 & XC90 SUVs, from the 2016 and 2017 model years.

Citing government documents, Volvo says that a seatbelt buckle stud can come loose, allowing the buckle to separate from the bracket. Should that occur, the belt may not be able to hold the front passenger in the event of a collision. Though no injuries have been thus far reported, and an expectation to discover almost no loose studs, Volvo is issuing this recall notice as a precautionary measure. Such is the Swedish devotion to safety.

Dealers will be equipped to replace the offending articles from December 12th onward, at no cost to the owners. Volvo first got wind of the issue after getting reports of buckle failures beginning in August. Further investigation narrowed the manufacturing window to Feb. 16th 2015 to Aug. 22nd 2016. Thus far, the recall notice is limited exclusively to vehicles in the US and Canada, with no statement being issued by Volvo Australia.
