The ‘DNA’ of Swedish brand Volvo has always been to be at the forefront of safety. Despite changes in ownership (Volvo has for some years been owned by China’s Geely Automotive) it seems nothing has changed.
In recent weeks the latest Volvo S60 and XC60 have both been awarded a ‘Top Safety Pick+’ by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) in North America and the all-new Volvo V40 picked-up a ‘Best In Class’ performance in Euro NCAP’s 2012 summary results. To secure a berth amongst the total of 18 vehicles in IIHS’ ‘Top Safety Pick+’ category, you must perform well in the new ‘small overlap’ crash test as well as the other long-term IIHS categories and in securing a ‘Best In Class’ performance in the Euro NCAP results (‘Small Family’ class) the all-new Volvo V40 posted an all-time high score in the pedestrian evaluation of 88 per-cent.
“Viewed together, all the top ratings during the past year emphasize our world-leading position in automotive safety,” explained Professor Lotta Jakobsson from the Volvo Cars Safety Centre. “By continuously introducing new preventive and protective systems, we keep moving towards our aim that by 2020 no one should be injured or killed in a new Volvo.”
