Volvo and Siemens Announce Electric Vehicle Partnership

Ahead of production of the Volvo C30 Electric and Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, Volvo has announced a joint venture with electronics giant Siemens.

The two companies are already advanced with electrical drive technology, power electronics and charging technology for the C30 Electric – 200 of these vehicles will be delivered to Siemens for real-world evaluation from late 2012.

Siemens electric motors currently being used by Volvo provide maximum power of 108kw and peak torque of 220Nm.

Their world-leading knowledge and experience will bring the technology in our electric cars up to an entirely new level,” revealed Volvo Car CEO Stefan Jacoby. “We are moving ahead quickly in this area. Our aim is to be the first with the latest technology within electrification. The partnership reinforces our aim to pursue the fast-growing market for electric cars.:
