Volkswagen’s New Generation Beetle (still under consideration for Australia) and up! compact (due next year) have both scored the maximum five-star safety score after the latest round of EuroNCAP barrier testing.
Both captured top scores for passenger protection and performed well in other criteria such as child protection and safety equipment.
In addition the Volkswagen up! received a EuroNCAP Advanced Award for its City Emergency Braking – a system which Volkswagen says is the first in the compact car segment.
The up! and New Generation Bettle join Volkswagen’s Golf, Golf Cabriolet, Jetta, Passat, Polo, Scirocco, Tiguan and the excellent Sharan people mover (strangely not sold here) in securing five-star EuroNCAP awards.
