Volkswagen, under its Commercial Vehicles arm, have released the first sketches which preview the next-generation Crafter in the run up to an official launch some time in September.
Once launched, it will sit at the top of Volkswagen’s range of large vans, above the Transporter, and clearly shows a design update to adopt Volkswagen’s new corporate look. They say that the new Crafter will offer innovation and a higher level of quality and functionality.
The new Crafter shares very little with its predecessor, sporting an all-new body that claims to have the lowest drag coefficient in its class and underpinnings that no longer was related to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
There isn’t much official rumblings to indicate what will be powering the new Crafter but we suspect the previous version’s 2.0-litre BiTDI diesel unit will be carried over to generate the same 120kW and 400Nm as before.
