While the regular Volkswagen Up – confirmed for Australian launch – stole the headlines for the Wolfsburg, Germany-based brand at the Frankfurt Motor Show, also on display were concepts varying the Up theme.
There was the dune buggy-styled ‘Buggy Up’, the nautically-themed Up Azzura - designed in collaboration with Italy’s Giugiaro – the ‘Cross Up’ (a four-door crossover), the sporty GT Up, the natural-gas-powered Eco Up and of course the electric E-Up.
Who knows which models will go on-sale (the Cross Up looked close to production-ready) but the point Volkswagen was making is that the Up is the launching pad for its ‘New Small Family’ and that opens the doors to lots of possibilities.
