Volkswagen has stepped-up to the plate for Europe’s diesel smoke engulfed major cities with news of a large capacity electric delivery van concept to be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show.
European visitors will know diesel-powered delivery vans are massive in all regions so a swap to zero emissions electric power will have a significant impact on air quality.
Volkswagen says the routes covered by delivery vans are well-known so providing infrastructure (re-charging stations) to support them would be a ‘no-brainer’.
The Volkswagen e-Co-Motion concept is a 800kgs payload van that is all-new (not based on the current Transporter or Caddy). It’s just 4.55-metres in length but boast a low-loading lip and 4.6 cubic-metres of cargo space.
The battery and other electronic components are mounted underneath providing a low, flat floor and the Volkswagen e-Co-Motion can be configured as a delivery van, a refrigerated van or a people-mover.
