Volkswagen reveals how they want a more modern Amarok to look like and feel. It's telling but we still need to use our imagination.
On balance, we would have preferred some actual pictures instead of drawings from Volkswagen but we’ll make due with the hand we’re dealt. Granted, they are quite faithful to what an updated Amarok would actually look like.
Compared to the current Volkswagen pick-up (which has been around since 2010), this newer version does bring a fair few nice touches that could make their way to the Amarok Highline or Ultimate such as the large alloy wheels and metallised skid plate.
Overall, however, the new Amarok sports an updated front end with a more prominent bumper and a more stylised bum as well but stays true to the current ute's shape.
Inside, the Amarok looks be inheriting the dashboard fascia from the rest of the Volkswagen vehicle line, lending a more upmarket air to the pick-up, and also gains a touchscreen infotainment system.
There’s no solid indications that there will be substantial upgrades to the powertrain package, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Volkswagen chose to give that a once-over too. Currently, the Amarok is offered with a 2.0-litre 103kW/340Nm or 132kW/420Nm turbodiesel engines.
