Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi Suspends Diesel Sales

Volkswagen Group Australia including Skoda and Audi has suspended the sale VW Group's controversial EA189 diesel engine in Australia.

The 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines that have been at the centre of the emissions cheat scandal, that ran computer software to alter the emissions data to make the engines appear more efficient than they are.

Volkswagen Australia's said it had "temporarily suspended the sale of affected vehicles fitted with 1.6 or 2.0-litre EA189 diesel engines. The suspension will remain until the emission issues are addressed in those vehicles."

This means Australian buyers will temporarily be unable to buy Jetta, CC, Passat B7, Tiguan SUV and Caddy that feature the E189 diesel motors.

Audi buyers will also be unable to purchase A4, A5 and Q5 models that are fitted with the groups 2.0 TD engine after Audi Australia said that they were temporarily suspending sales of these cars.

Similarly the Skoda brand that also falls under the Volkswagen group has suspended sales on the Yeti and Superb models that are also fitted with the same 1.6 and 2.0 EA189 diesel engines.
