Volkswagen’s Polo voted 2010 World Car of the Year

Due on-sale locally in May, the new Volkswagen Polo has been named 2010 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show.

Controversially in some opinions, the new Polo eclipsed the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Toyota Prius to capture the award from the 59 jurors in 25 countries. There were 30 cars in contention.

It’s a double for Volkswagen with the Golf scoring the same award in 2009.

Clearly Volkswagen is now offering a global product range that is the best in the company’s history and its Wolfsburg, Germany head office will be demanding strong sales from all regions in 2010.
It’s unfortunate the Polo could not be launched earlier in Australia to provide a full year of extra sales locally.
