Volkswagen’s updated 2011 Eos Coupe-Cabriolet is now on sale in Australia.

Featuring new looks – the Eos adopts the latest Volkswagen styling – and extra technology, the hot-selling Volkswagen cabrio is priced at $49,990 (diesel) and $51,990 (petrol) – just a tad more expensive than the outgoing models.

No changes under the bonnet. The petrol Eos employs Volkswagen’s turbocharged 2.0-litre with 155kW/280Nm, while the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel delivers 103kW/320Nm.

Both drive through a six-speed DSG automatic transmission.

The petrol engine has been substantially enhanced for Euro5 emissions compliance (now rated at 179g/km) and fuel consumption has been reduced to 7.7l/100kms. Changes to the diesel have also enhanced fuel consumption – now 5.9l/100kms.

Externally, the new Volkswagen Eos adopts the latest trends in Volkswagen design – noticeable particularly in the front end by the new grille and headlights (Halogen standard, Bi-Xenon with LED daytime running lights optional).

At the rear there is a new bumper and lights – the latter featuring a stylized ‘M’ incorporating LED taillights and brake lights.

And there are new-design alloy wheels (17-inch standard or optional 18-inch).

Inside, the new Volkswagen Eos scores standard leather seats, new trim material with dark aluminium/chrome accents, Bluetooth connectivity, Volkswagen’s Media Device Interface (MDI) and an improved RCD510 audio system.

Volkswagen says the Eos is the only vehicle in its class to provide a tilt and slide sunroof in its hardtop. The five-part roof folds ingeniously in just 25 seconds.

Eos has 380-litres of luggage space with the roof closed and a handy 205-litres with the roof open.

The full range is:
