Today, Volkswagen Australia issued a recall notice for its Golf wagon and Passat saloon models, due to concerns that there may be an issue with the cars failing to report any malfunctioning lights.
Volkswagen explained that due to a software bug, the affected vehicles may fail to report if any of the cars’ exterior lights are malfunctioning or inoperative, and may report lights to be malfunction or inoperative when they are not. This electronic confusion could lead to hazardous situations in poor lighting conditions, increasing risk of an untoward incident.
VIN lists for the affected Golf wagons and Passat saloons can be viewed here, and owners of affected VWs will be contacted by mail. We urge owners to be proactive and get in touch with their dealers at the sooner possible convenience, to arrange an inspection and rectification of the issue (by updating the software on the body control module).
