Volkswagen C Coupe GTE Could It Be The All-New Phaeton

Here’s hoping Volkswagen Group Australia gets into gear and brings the all-new Phaeton premium sedan to Australia following the debut of the C Coupe GTE Coupe in Shanghai.

At 5071mm in length and with a wheelbase of 3014mm, the C Coupe GTE Coupe is larger than the Passat suggesting this is indeed the basis of the all-new Phaeton (the current model strangely never made it to Oz, despite some concerted efforts when it first emerged from the breakthrough plant in Dresden).

The Volkswagen C Coupe GTE concept is powered by a plug-in hybrid power train comprising a 155kW 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 91kW electric motor – the combo capable of zero emissions all-electric motoring for up to 50kms and combined-cycle fuel consumption of 2.3l/100kms.

Just like the current Phaeton, back seat passengers have luxury laid-on including gorgeous twin 9.5-inch entertainment screens mounted in the rear of the front seats and a pair of 4.5-inch touchcreens.

And up-front the technology continues with a stunning ‘blackscreen’ instrument layout.
