Volkswagen Group Australia is recall quite a number of their 2016 and 2017 models over concerns that the airbags and seatbelt tensioners in these effect vehicles may not work properly in the event of an accident, a consequence that could result increased risk of injury.
Specifically, these concern a pool of roughly 340 vehicles - the model year 2017 Volkswagen Golf, Tiguan, Passat, Transporter, Multivan, and Amarok. For 2016 model year vehicles, the only one involved is the Amarok.
VW Australia is current in the process of contacting owners, letters are being sent out to the addresses supplied at the point of purchase but if you’d like to contact Volkswagen directly can reach their Customer Care hotline at 1800-607-822.
Presumably, the cars will need to be brought into the nearest authorised dealer for a fix to be applied at no charge. The VIN list can be found here. The recall, designated as Campaign 69P4, stems from an identical issue found in the Skoda Superb, a car closely related to the Volkswagen Passat, though that recall only involved 7 vehicles nationally.
