A year after showing the concept vehicle, Volkswagen will showcase production versions of the Amarok at the Australian International Motor Show (Sydney) next month.
But Volkswagen’s ground-breaking ute will not be on-sale locally until the first half of 2011. We’ll see the crew cab versions here initially – the two-door model was just revealed at the Frankfurt Truck Show
Car Showroom has driven the Amarok in Germany and we know it’s a beauty – typically Volkswagen in its driving dynamics and quality. The 120kW, twin-turbo diesel engine will get people talking for starters.
Volkswagen is claiming class leadership for the Amarok in several key areas. The tray is 1,555mm long and 1,620mm wide and with a payload of 1.0 metric tones, the Amarok can handle Euro pallets stored sideways.
Volkswagen Amarok is a good looker with a muscly front end and silhouette highlighted by beefy sculptured wheel arches. Inside is interior space and headroom which leaves many rivals looking cramped.
Volkswagen Amarok also boasts plenty of technology underneath with standard Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), ABS anti-lock brakes, an Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and an off-road all-wheel-drive system which can be selected on the fly at speeds up to 130km/h.
Volkswagen Group Australia is yet to confirm full local specifications or pricing.
