Land Rover’s historic all-new Defender is scheduled for the middle of the decade and as part the process the two concept vehicles (DC100 and DC100 Sport) which appeared at the Frankfurt Motor Show will be shown again at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
However slight evolution is already evident. Both now feature new 20-inch alloy wheels with mud-digging Cooper off-road tyres and the DC100 has gained an air intake ‘snorkel’ and roof racks.
While both are true to the ‘go-anywhere’ heritage of the iconic Land Rover Defender, both DC100 and DC100 Sport are underpinned by the latest Land Rover technology such as Terrain Response with a new Terrain-i 3D topographical mapping system to identify hazards and suggest alternative route plus a new ‘Wade Aid’ water crossing system which automatically shuts body vents, raises the ride height and selects a low gear.
“our intention is to introduce the all-new Defender in the middle of the decade – there’s a lot of work to do to meet these dates and our concepts are just the start of the journey,” revealed Land Rover brand director, John Edwards. “We are here in LA to showcase our DC100 and DC100 Sport concepts and start to actively explore the possibility of bringing the future Defender to North America.
