New looks, extra specifications and the debut of Luxury Line and Modern grades plus adaptive LED headlights are the highlights of BMW’s updated 5 Series range. Local details have now been announced for BMW’s mid-sizer which takes on the latest Mercedes-Benz E-Class which arrived a few weeks back.
Across the range, BMW Australia has responded with adjusted prices and specifications. No better example than the range-topping 550i V8 which has been lopped by $20,000 to $159,900.
“With every model in the new BMW 5 Series range available with extended specifications, BMW has created a whole new value proposition for the prestige vehicle segment,” revealed BMW Australia chief Phil Horton.
Like the rival E-Class, styling changes while not significant do provide a fresher look externally and inside.
And it’s a similar story under the bonnet with only the 550i’s 4.4-litre V8 engine picking up some extra grunt – now rated at 330kW/650Nm.
Entry grade 520i and 520d models score dynamic stability control and active headrests plus active cruise control and a reversing camera. Touring (wagon) models add an automatic tailgate and Parking Assistant.
For the 528i, 535i and 535d you can add Adaptive LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, Harman Kardon audio and the Driving Assistant technology which includes lane departure, forward collision and pedestrian alert.
Activehybrid 5 ramps-up the looks with new 18-inch alloy wheels plus interior enhancements.
And the handsome 5 Series Gran Turismo now looks much better equipped with 19-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels, surround-view camera system and adaptive LED headlights.
