Two versions of Peugeot’s 308 GTi are headed for launch in Australia in the first quarter of next year.

2015 PEUGEOT 308

The extra-sporty Peugeot 308 GTi 270 (as in 270 horsepower) – identified by its ‘Coupe-Franche’ two-tone paintwork - features a 200kW/330Nm version of the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, motorsport-derived 380mm ventilated front disc brakes mounted on front aluminium hubs and a Torsen limited slip differential.

For the regular 308 GTi, its version of the turbo 1.6-litre is good for 182kW/300Nm.

Both ride 11mm lower than the regular 308, run wider tracks front and rear and share a unique calibration for the MacPherson strut front/twist beam rear suspension including weight-saving aluminum wishbones and semi-hollow anti-roll bars.

Another lightweight feature is the rear tailgate which is made from composite materials.

Styling sees a unique front-end with a black grille, full LED headlights and twin spoilers.

There are side sills and a rear with a gloss-black section for the twin tailpipes.

Peugeot 308 GTi 270 is further identified by its 19-inch ‘Carbone’ light-weight alloy wheels with Michelin Super Sport tyres (18-inch ‘Diamant’ alloys for the standard model with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 rubber.

Both score an interior enhanced by Peugeot Sport and the range-topping 270 goes further with Alcantara-trimmed sports seats.

Peugeot Australia let www.carshowroom.com.au loose in both 308 GTi models on the tight short circuit at Sydney Motorsport Park.

In that environment the racy 270 model with its extra grunt and Torsen differential was right at home but, as dedicated ‘hot hatch’ fans we’d be happy with either in our garage permanently.

We’ll have a full drive of the Peugeot 308 GTi ahead of local launch next year by which time Peugeot Australia will have completed wrangling the ever-changing local currency and determined final specifications and pricing.
