Toyota plans to grow its hybrid-powered Prius range with two new variants displayed at the Australian International Motor Show.
While the sporty, compact Prius C is a concept at this stage, it does point to a future Prius city car for younger buyers. In its concept form, the Prius C delivers a racy exterior matched with a modern, dynamic and spacious interior.
Toyota has flagged the Prius C could become the entry-level price-leader for the expanded Prius range.
“The Prius C concept anticipates a city-friendly car aimed at young singles and couples who want a fuel-efficient car that is fun to drive and has an impressively spacious interior,” explained Toyota’s sales and marketing chief, David Buttner. “It will be Toyota’s most affordable hybrid and we expect it to offer even better fuel economy and lower emissions than our flagship Prius.”
On the other hand, the Prius V displayed at the Australian International Motor Show was production-ready. It’s a larger wagon model aimed at families and commercial operators who want to enjoy the benefits of hybrid motoring while carrying a larger load.
With seating for five and a large-opening tailgate, the Prius V offers sliding second row seats and even a ‘fold-flat’ function for the front passenger seat to deliver maximum load carrying versatility.
Toyota Prius V is 4615mm in length and runs a 2780mm wheelbase.
Toyota will gauge consumer interest in both models at the Australian International Motor Show before deciding the timetable for its expansion of the hybrid Prius family.
