Audi has boosted its range-topping, mega-luxury A8 sedan range with two new turbo-diesel engines joining the existing the 4.2-litre V8 petrol powerplant.
Leading the Audi A8 fuel-consumption stakes is the new six-cylinder, 3.0-litre TDI with 184kW/550Nm. With standard start/stop, this V6 masterpiece sips diesel on average at the rate of 6.6l/100kms and can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 6.6 seconds.
The V8, 4.2-litre TDI is good for 258kW and 800Nm (that’s not a typo – it’s really 800Nm!). That propels the Audi A8 from zero to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds, yet fuel consumption on average is a miserly 7.6l/100kms – Audi claims the A8 4.2 TDI can travel more than 1,100kms on one tank of diesel.
Equally impressively, the Audi A8 4.2 TDI emits on average 199g/km of CO2 – the only V8 diesel in the luxury segment to score below 200g/km.
Drive is to all four wheels via Audi’s technically superb eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
Of course the Audi A8 features the stunning aluminium Audi Space Frame body and the alloy suspension control arms which are crucial in delivering the startling levels of driving dynamics enjoyed by A8 owners.
And inside is the hallmark Audi luxury and technology including 22-way electronic adjustment to ensure perfect comfort for the front seats.
