Staking its claim to being the world’s most desirable high-performance wagon, Audi’s red-hot RS 6 Avant goes on-sale locally in October priced from $225,000 and orders have already been taken.
With its 412kW/700Nm twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre petrol engine, the Quattro system, the RS 6 Avant is Audi’s most powerful model. Drive is to all four wheels via an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and the acclaimed Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
And with zero to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, we’ll rank the Audi RS 6 Avant in the ‘Supercar’ league of vehicles with sub-four second times.
Audi being Audi, technological advances over the previous generation weren’t just about performance – an RS first sees cylinder-on-demand (COD) introduced. Using only four cylinders under light load, the RS 6 Avant has slashed fuel consumption over the previous model by 30 per-cent with the combined cycle average of 9.8l/100kms.
Underneath you can choose from RS adaptive air suspension (lowers the vehicle by 20mm) with driver-select driving modes or the firmer RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control. The Audi RS 6 Avant rides on massive 21-inhc alloy wheels.
Inside is the usual Audi sporty opulence plus a family-friendly 1,680-litres of cargo space. Amongst the standard inclusions are digital TV reception with DAB+, RS sports front seats in Valcona leather, a head-up display and Audi parking system with a 360-degree camera.
