All-New Toyota Prado Goes High-Tech
Coinciding with its global launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Toyota Australia has released preliminary details on the new Prado range scheduled for local introduction in November.
The revised styling is evolutionary however the all-new Prado is 80mm longer and 10mm wider than the current version. The new model is also 15mm lower, contributing to a slight improvement in aerodynamic efficiency - the drag coefficient down to 0.35.
Overall, the new look is very 'LandCruiser-ish' - especially at the front where the new cylindrical headlights and grille are mounted quite high.
At the side, the high belt line and forward-shift of the A-Pillar add to the extra muscle that highlights the new Prado's appearance.
LED indicator lights are mounted in the side mirrors and the rear lights are also LED. The body-coloured rear spoiler houses the rear window wiper.
Body rigidity has been improved by 11 per cent and extra insulation has been added to the body mounts for enhanced refinement.
Inside the rear floor has been lowered by 38mm to improve the comfort of the third row seat passengers.
Both the 4.0-litre V6 petrol and 3.0-litre four cylinder turbo diesel powerplants have been improved for better fuel economy and lower emissions. Toyota says the diesel will average better than 9.0l/100kms.
Seven airbags, stability and traction control will be standard and you can expect other high-tech features to be revealed when the Prado goes on sale locally. For example in Europe the Prado comes equipped with Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) and Adaptive variable Suspension (AVS with Roll Posture Control for enhanced ride/handling and a four-camera Multi-Terrain Monitor and Steering Angle Display for easier off-road and tight parking maneuvers.
