At the Frankfurt Motor Show in three weeks, Toyota will celebrate 16 years and 5.5-million sales of hybrid vehicles with the debut of the Yaris Hybrid-R.
The Yaris concept look sporty and boasts power from Toyota Motorsports in the form of its 1.6-litre GRE engine (GRE stands for Global Race Engine). That 1.6-litre petrol powerplant combines with two electric motors to provide the Yaris Hybrid-R intelligent all-wheel-drive.
And, borrowing technology from Toyota’s TS030 Hybrid race car, the Yaris Hybrid-R runs brake energy regeneration which is stored in a super capacitor which provides high power density and quick charge and discharge speeds.
All of that in a Yaris – wow!
