The World Trade Group has awarded Toyota Europe its 2011 Green Manufacturing Award.
Toyota garnered the award after case studies looked at performance in areas such as maximizing energy efficiency, water usage and treatment, reduction of waste and compliance with environmental regulations.
The performance of Toyota’s UK plants was part of the success. Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire has eliminated landfill and incinerated waste and earlier this year turned on a solar panel array capturing up to 4.6 million kWh of sustainable energy each year – enough to build around 7,000 cars.
