The powertrains are now covered up to 7-years, and up to a decade for hybrid batteries.
It seems that Toyota has finally conceded to years of complaints that a 3-year warranty period is simply inadequate, but has responded with much more than anyone could have imagined they would have. It wasn’t enough to join the 5-year warranty bandwagon the way Subaru did last week – instead, they’ve upped the warranty all over the place, ensuring that life with your Toyota will always be a hassle-free experience.
As a result, expect to find a 5-year bumper-to-bumper warranty on the car, as well as an addition 7-year coverage for the powertrain, and up to 10-year coverage on hybrid batteries. This will come as a fabulous bonus for anyone who might’ve been on the fence about a new Toyota on the account of their relatively-short warranty period.
“Toyota Warranty Advantage demonstrates the willingness of Toyota and our dealers to provide excellent customer care that matches the enviable reputation of our vehicles for quality, durability, and reliability. Our customers have told us that being able to remain on the road with minimal disruption and inconvenience was most important to them. That’s why we’ve taken the time to develop the Toyota Warranty Advantage, to ensure that we deliver what our customers are looking for.” — Sean Hanley, Vice President (Sales & Marketing), Toyota Australia
The 5-year manufacturer warranty applies to all new Toyota vehicles sold from January 1st 2019, and bears no mileage cap for private buyers (commercial customers are subject to a 160,000km limit). Furthermore, if the vehicle renders itself undriveable due to a failure of some kind within 60-days, owners are entitled to a full refund. That refund promise also applies to cases where multiple authorised repair attempts fail to restore the full functionality of the vehicle.
The powertrain warranty of up to 7-years is applicable for vehicles that undergo scheduled log-book servicing throughout their warranty period. Furthermore, the hybrid batteries are covered for 10-years and unlimited kilometres should Toyota hybrid vehicles be subject to annual hybrid health inspections, which are already included as part of the standard service schedule for Toyota hybrid models from the 5th-year onwards.
Additionally, all new Toyotas are covered by Toyota Service Advantage, which offers capped-price servicing “at remarkably low prices.” This means that a Toyota Hilux will cost you just $240 per service for the first 6 scheduled services over three years or 60,000km (or $180 if you have a petrol-powered model). A Corolla Hybrid will set you back just $175 for the first 5 scheduled annual services or 75,000km.
