Toyota Still On-Top In Solid March Sales

Toyota remains number one in Australian new cars sales following the release of official industry results for March.

Overall, with 260,122 sales so far this year, the new car market is running 4.7 per cent ahead of the same period last year.

Toyota racked-up 18,461 sales in March to comfortably lead Holden with 10,196.

Mazda, buoyed by the launch of the all-new CX-5 SUV, retains third place and best of the full-line importers with March sales of 9,345.

Nissan ranked fourth with March sales of 8,312, ahead of Hyundai with 7,806 vehicles and Ford who posted 7,457.

Again the SUV segment continued its phenomenal growth – 18.4 per cent up on March 2011, lead by small SUVs which are running 22.2 per cent up. Light car sales are also up substantially – 9.9 per cent ahead of last year.

Good news for Toyota with HiLux ute supply back to normal after its Thailand plant recovered from last year’s floods – HiLux back to number one sales position in both 4x2 and 4x4. And the all-new Toyota Camry is performing well with March sales up by 42.8 per cent over March 2011.

Commenting on the resurgence, Dave Buttner, Toyota’s executive vice president said: “We understand the importance of HiLux to businesses and to individual customers, whether it’s being bought for workhorse or family duties or both. I would like to thank all our HiLux customers for their understanding and patience as well as the remarkable loyalty they have shown.
