Australian new car sales in July of 80,991 represent a decline over 2010 of 1.7 per cent and year-to-date at the end of July, the total of 577,227 is down about 5.9 per cent.
Toyota was the number one brand in July with sales of 12,980 - 2,161 vehicles ahead of second-placed Holden (10,819).
Overall Toyota has extended its lead for the year and at the end of July accounts for 17 per cent of the total Australian market, well ahead of Holden with 12.7 per cent.
Five Toyota vehicles – Camry, LandCruiser 200 Series, Hilux 4x2, Hilux 4x4 and HiAce bus – were all the best-sellers in their respective market segments.
Ford was number three in July with sales of7,769 vehicles and year-to-date retains third place in the market with 9.2 per cent.
Hyundai had a strong July with sales of 7,226 vehicles but year-to-date Mazda holds a narrow lead in the race to be number one importer (50,780 vehicles to 50,204).
Of the models, Holden Commodore remains our most popular nameplate, racking-up 3551 sales in July while Holden Cruze delivered its best-vere July performance with sales of 3,123.
