Australians bought 88,082 vehicles in August – 7.3 per cent more than August 2010 – however overall new car sales so far this year (665,309) are 30,357 (4.4 per cent) down on last year.
Toyota maintained its market leadership in August, racking-up 15,885 sales for 18 per cent of the market.
Holden is still number two (11,534 sales for the month – Holden’s best August since 2007). Holden Cruze secured 3,234 sales in the month – it’s second best month ever.
Mazda had a fantastic August, clocking-up 9,138 sales – its best-ever August - to be our third most-popular brand. Year-to-date Mazda is number four with total sales of 59,918, behind Ford with 61,334.
Of the European importers, significant news for Renault with 401 vehicles sold in August – nearly three times the number sold in August last year. Overall this year Renault sales are up by an impressive 99.7 per cent.
