It took 47 years, but some Toyota customer last month took delivery of the five-millionth Toyota vehicle sold in Australia.
Toyota says it is impossible to determine the exact date, the specific vehicle or the customer who was number 5,000,000.
That number is comprised of 2.9 million passenger cars and 2.1 million commercial vehicles.
Amortized over 47 years, Toyota has averaged 100,000 sales per year, but for the last six years the company has sold more than 200,000 vehicles annually – the only local automotive company to have reached that number in a year.
Toyota’s most popular model is the Corolla with 1.1 million sales – more than one in every five Australian Toyotas.
Camry is the next-best with 740,000 local sales, however more have been exported for sale in more than 20 foreign destinations.
LandCruiser has almost reached 740,000 sales and the Hilux range – Australia’s best-selling vehicle for two months of 2009 – has found 650,000 homes during its journey in this market
