Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and Nissan Juke will soon have a major problem as Toyota will be crashing their compact SUV party in 2017.

2017 Toyota C-HR Confirmed For Australia

This is Toyota’s brand-new entrant to the burgeoning compact SUV/Crossover market – it’s called the C-HR, it has just been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show and it will be on-sale locally early next year.

At 4350mm (length) and 1795mm (width), the C-HR is only a shade longer and wider than the Toyota Corolla hatchback but the wheelbase is longer at 2640mm and of course it features an SUV-like ride height.

Toyota has confirmed Australian models will run the new-generation 85kW/185Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine.

The five-door Toyota C-HR will be offered in either 2WD or AWD via a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic.

Underneath is an all-new platform developed under the umbrella of Toyota’s global ‘New GenerationArchitecture’.

“C-HR will expand Toyota’s market appeal with its stunning design and superb driving performance – with powerful low-end torque and outstanding handling and agility – all while delivering impressive fuel economy,” explained Toyota Australia’s sales and marketing chief Tony Cramb.

And not before time – until now Toyota has not had a vehicle in this mini-segment which has tripled in size during the last four years.
