Today, Toyota Australia has announced a recall notice for 2015-2016 Toyota Hiace vans. Specific to the long-wheelbase crew vans (or semi-panel vans), the recall is due to a possible issue with the latches for the sliding rear doors.

Going further into the matter, Toyota said that the vans, fitted with a single-latch system for its rear doors, do not comply with Australian Design Rules (ADR) legislation, which requires it to be fitted with a dual-latch system. Worst-case scenario, the sliding doors may open while the vehicle is in motion.

A list of the vehicle identification numbers can be viewed here, and the recall affects vans built between January 2015 and October 2016.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Toyota Australia via mail, though we advise them to see their local dealer to get the latch changed out free-of-charge. For more information, contact Toyota Customer Service at 1800-869-682.
