Already a favourite with mums around Australia, Toyota has enhanced the RAV4 lineup with addition of two two-wheel-drive (2WD) models.
The entry level 2WD CV (five-speed manual transmission) model now becomes the RAV price leader stickered at $28,990, while the higher-specification Cruiser model (manual) is priced at $33,990 – that’s $3,000 below the equivalent four-wheel-drive models. For an automatic transmission, add $2,000.
While RAV’s appeal to family buyers has always been its handy packaging, the reality is most have never used the all-wheel-drive (AWD) off-road capability. So Toyota expects launch of the 2WD models will bring extra customers to their dealerships.
Fuel consumption benefits too with the 2WD versions burning unleaded at 9.1l/100kms (automatic) compared to 9.6l/100kms for the equivalent AWD model.
Under the bonnet is the same 2.4-litre, VVT-I, four-cylinder engine delivering 125kw/ 224Nm. Ratios for the transmissions differ from the AWD models.
Equipment levels mirror the AWD models with both 2WD versions featuring vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, dual front SRS airbags, 17-inch alloy wheels, electric power steering, air-conditioning, USB/Bluetooth audio and Downhill Assist Control for automatic transmission models.
The up-spec Cruiser model gains five spoke alloy wheels, over-fender flares, roof rails, fog lights, rear-side privacy glass, a 6-CD audio with colour LCD screen, dual-zone climate control air and five extra airbags.
RAV CV buyers can choose an option pack that includes the extra airbags and front dual-zone climate control air.
