With total industry sales up by six per-cent over the previous all-time best June of 2013, Toyota reckons we could be on-track for another record year for new car sales.
Some 125,850 new vehicles were purchased last month (the end of the Financial Year is always a massive month for the industry) and for the first six months of the year the total was 578,427.
So by rule-of-thumb the 2013 112-month record of 1,136,227 vehicles could be topped by as much as 20,000 sales this year.
And again it’s our passion for SUVs which is largely driving the increased sales – SUV sales up by 13.8 per-cent compared to the first six months of 2014.
In June, Toyota was the best-selling brand in eight market segments and lead all three major categories – passenger vehicles, SUVs and light commercials.
Toyota dealers sold 21,501 new vehicles in June, ahead of Holden (11,928), Mazda (11,526) and Hyundai (11,007).
There was some surprise in the industry when the Hyundai i30 was the number one best-selling vehicle in June with a total of 5,521 vehicles – this is 70.2 per-cent up on the i30’s efforts in June last year and in fact is around 50 per-cent of its total sales for the previous five months.
