No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you and this is a production model – it’s a Toyota Prado without the externally-mounted spare wheel.
It’s the new limited edition Toyota Pardo ‘Altitude’ – a value-packed addition to the lineup priced at $68,520.
Based on the GXL diesel automatic model, Toyota says the Prado Altitude is loaded with more than $10,000 worth of extras – the most significant being that clean rear-end with a glass hatch tailgate which can be opened for cargo area access without opening the door.
Shifting the regular externally-mounted spare wheel also means the tailgate is significantly lighter which will be good news for female buyers or those who fit a towbar.
Relocation of the spare wheel requires deletion of Prado’s secondary fuel tank but the regular 87-litre tank still provides a range between refills of more than 1,000kms.
Also included in the Toyota Prado Altitude are a 14-speaker JBL audio system and satellite navigation with a seven-inch screen and chrome carbon/fibre look trim highlights.
