Reports are coming from North America and Japan about a recall of Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Honda vehicles to rectify defective front passenger airbags.
According to Toyota North America the airbags (sourced from a supplier company) are equipped with improperly manufactured propellant wafers which may cause the front passenger airbag to not function correctly in the event of an impact.
Mazda Australia has confirmed some 468 first generation Mazda6 vehicles manufactured between 2002 and 2003 are included in the global numbers. No defects have been reported here, but Mazda Australia will be contacting owners of those vehicles to make arrangements to complete the required rectification.
At this point in time, Toyota Australia, Nissan Australia and Honda Australia are still determining any local requirements (if any).
