Car makers globally are becoming tired of being ‘bashed’ on environmental grounds by politicians when governments themselves are moving at a glacial pace to develop infrastructure to support zero-emissions electric vehicles.

The Japanese government has said 15-20 per-cent of new car sales by 202 should be zero-emission vehicles so four Japanese giants – Toyota, Nissan Honda and Mitsubishi – can wait no longer and they’ve teamed-up to accelerate the roll-out of public charge points in Japan.

The automotive companies have announced they are working with relevant government agencies in Japan to double the number of charging outlets to at least 4,000 quick chargers and 8,000 regular chargers. Included in the plan is installation of charging points in shopping mall carparks and freeway rest stops.
