Toyota Maintain Sales Leadership

Toyota’s dominance of Australian new vehicle race continued in May with Corolla and HiLux our top-selling vehicles as the Japanese giant notched-up sales of 17,246 vehicles – 91.4 per-cent better than any other brand.

May was the fifth time in the last 14 months Toyota Corolla and HiLux were number one and number two best-sellers for the month. And it was the third consecutive month for Corolla to be number one with sales of more 3,871 vehicles.
 
It was good month too for Toyota’s RAV4 SUV with 1,522 sold in the month – the best May on record.

Toyota has sold 80,300 vehicles this year with second-placed Holden racking-up just 44,441.
 
Overall in May, new Australian new vehicle sales were down by 2.3 per-cent or 2,226 vehicles on the corresponding month last year.
 
Once again the SUV segment was the only one to shine with sales up by 5.4 per-cent (1,578 vehicles) on May 2013. Jeep Grand Cherokee was again the best-selling large SUV, recording sales of 1,694 (its best month of sales on record).

Year-to-date, Mazda is third overall with total sales so far of 42,536 vehicles, ahead of fourth-placed Hyundai (39,589) and Ford (33,527).
